The #1 thing standing in the way of your content marketing success: Commitment

Now, please don’t get offended or upset with me because I know that you are committed to your business success. You’re working hard every day to get the results you want in your business, and I know you’re willing to do hard things in order to achieve your goals. What I’m talking about here is your commitment to sticking to a content strategy long enough to see the results. 

In our crowded online space, you’re having so many ideas and new marketing strategies thrown at you from all different angles all the time. It’s really tempting to try every new idea or strategy once, and then if it doesn’t bring results right away, move on to trying the next thing. There are so many strategies out there that can grow your business to 5k months, 5-figure months, 6 or 7 figure years – whatever your goal is. The key is choosing just 1 or 2 things to focus on, and committing to doing the work consistently in order to get the results you want. I wholeheartedly believe that when you start implementing a content strategy that is designed around your specific business goals, and you commit to following it for the long term, it will get you to the results that you want, but you can’t just dip your toes in the water and get results.

You can’t just dip your toes in the water.

This is the biggest mistake I see people making with content marketing in our online industry. They say, “I tried blogging and it didn’t work for me.” Or “social media is a waste of time because it hasn’t worked to bring me any clients yet.” The truth is, blogging every now and again probably isn’t going to lead to many clients. Even blogging consistently for… a month or two before giving up because it hasn’t led to any results yet, is not long enough to see results. In fact, after you’ve been consistent with content for a month or to this is when it’s critical to keep going.

Content Marketing is a long game.

Content marketing results come from consistently following a strategy designed around your business goals over a long period of time. Notice I didn’t say blogging consistently, or posting on social media consistently, but it’s about following a STRATEGY consistently. Simply showing up is not necessarily going to lead to any clients. It’s about showing up in a strategic way, week after week after week, and committing to your strategy long enough to see the results.
