Sometimes entrepreneurship feels like a crash-course in personal development. For better or worse, it can start to feel like a constant stream of always striving, always improving, always learning and understanding ourselves better.

For the last few months, one of my big focuses has been self-trust. It sounds like a simple concept, but the more I’ve learned about self-trust and how to apply it in my life and business, the more I realize it’s a pretty radical act.

What if you don’t need someone else to tell you the right answer? What if you know best when it comes to the goals you choose to work toward and what success looks like to you? What if you can trust yourself to know when you need to rest, and also know when it’s time to stop resting?

What if you don’t need anyone or anything else to tell you what to do or keep you in line?

A few months ago, I hired a coach to help me with a specific new strategy in my business. As I got further into the implementation of this new strategy, I found myself relying on my coach more and more. Asking for feedback on every little detail, waiting for answers to questions like: “Should I do X or should I do Y?”, and expecting my coach to know the right answer to everything.

And then I remembered that my coach is the expert in this particular strategy, but I am the expert when it comes to the message I’m here to share and the people I’m here to serve.

So instead of waiting for an answer from my coach, I cut out the distractions around me, got quiet, and listened to my intuition. And I had the answer I needed in about 5 minutes.

I wouldn’t have the business I have today without the coaches, mentors, and strategists who have helped me along the way. But I also wouldn’t be here without trusting myself and letting my intuition decide how to take their advice and use it in a way that works for me and my business.

Next time you think you need someone else to tell you what to do in your business, try trusting yourself instead. Your intuition knows more than you’d think.

To trusting ourselves,
Elli
